Get the Volunteer Schedule for Meets here!

Volunteer Policy: 2008

Volunteers must check in at the beginning of each swim meet at the volunteer desk.  Volunteers who do not check in will be considered absent and will be charged $35 per missed slot.  If penalties are not paid prior to the beginning of the 2009 swim season, your child will not be allowed to register with FAST for 2009

Swim Meet Instructions:

1. Sign up: (the following is mandatory if you choose to enter a meet. )

Each swimmer is responsible for signing up for each meet the week (9 days) prior to the meet. CCSL requires electronic submission of all entries to the opposing team no later than Tuesday of the meet week. In order to meet this deadline with enough time to enter all swimmers in the events for that week's meet, the cut off for signup will be the Thursday 9 days prior to the meet. No late sign up. NO EXCEPTIONS.

If you are unable to get to the sign up sheet for any reason, you may call or email the Clerk of Course. The Cllerk of Course is not responsible if the email or call is not received by the same Thursday deadline.

A swimmer who does not sign up in advance but shows up the day of the meet will not be added to the meet.

2. Absence from Meet:

After a swimmer is entered, signed up, for a swim meet, the swimmer should nto miss the swim meet except for illness or family emergency. Contact the Head Coach or the Clerk of Course on Friday before the meet if possible. Otherwise, please contact them by 6:30 AM on the day of the meet. Swimmers who are entered in a meet, but fail to show up create lots of confusion an unnecessary extra work for the host team clerk of course and our coaches. Please attempt to telephone us and let us know if a swimmer will be absent from a swim meet they entered. If a swimmer misses a meet without an excused absence as noted above, the swimmer may be suspended from entering the next swim meet.

3. Reporting Time:

Arrive at the meet by 7:00 AM for the "check-in" and warm ups. If you do not check in, we do not know you are there. The coaches will be at the meet to check in the swimmers on the meet entry list and write the swimmers event numbers and strokes on their hands. The team will then have a warm-up practice. It is extremely important for all swimmers to warm-up, count their strokes from the backstroke flags (pools may be slightly different), and be ready to swim when their events are called.

Again, be on time! The team will be flexible where possible, but we cannot and will not delay the meet for tardy swimmers. If the swimmer arrives at a meet after 7:00 AM, the swimmer may not be able to swim. If you know you will be running late, please contact a coach or the Clerk of Course prior to 6:30 AM the day of the meet.

4. Team Tent Area:

All swimmers ARE RESPONSIBLE for reporting to the "Ready Area" on time. Swimmer may site with the team in the FAST tent area. Swimmers will be notified when it is time to go to the ready area. Swimmers arriving at the ready area must listen carefully for their names and pickup their event entry card. All events will start on schedule whether or not all swimmers are present in the ready area or starting blocks. Parents and/or swimmer ARE RESPONSIBLE for swimmers getting to the ready area at the proper time.

5. Ribbons/Awards

Ribbons are awarded to all swimmers in all heats. The ribbons will be placed into the swimmers's envelop/file by Tuesday morning following the meet. Swimmers and parent should collect the ribbons from the swimmers's envelope.

6. Questions or Complaints

CCSL rules prohibit parents or swimmers from direct discussion with the referee, officials or judges. During swim meets, any an all questions or complaints about the actions of the opposing teams or officials must be directed to the FAST team Meet Representative.

7. Permission to Leave the Meet Early

Leaving a meet without swimming in all events for which a swimmer has been entered, is only acceptable for sudden illness or family emergency. Failure to follow this rule will be cause for suspension from the next meet. A single swimmer leaving the meet early will most likely cause at least three other swimmers and their families to be disappointed.. since we cannot swim a relay without all four swimmers. Please contact the Head Coach. If you are finished swimming all of your events, please check out with the Clerk of Course before leaving. You may be needed to substitute in another event.

8. Bad Weather:

Inclement weather will generally not cancel a swim meet. Please come regardless of the weather forecast. OR CHECK the main page of this site, www.friendswoodswim.org, for current information.

9. Stuff to Bring to the Swim Meet

Don't forget these items: lawn chairs, sunscreen, shade tents/umbrellas, games, books, tape/CD players, blankets, coolers, snacks ( or use concessions), and Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles. Label everything with your swimmer's name including swimsuits, towels, caps, Goggles, T-shirts, toys, etc. Be sure that you and your swimmer use sunscreen frequently.

10. Concessions

The concession stand at our home meets is supported and supplied entirely by FAST volunteers and contributions, and by our sponsors. FAST receives all profits from concession sales. Profitable concessions keep FAST from having to hold other fundraiser activities. The concession coordinator may ask you to donate a food or beverage item to the concession stand during the year. Please volunteer to help, and also patronize our concession.
